Salem, Massachuetts is a very popular place to be around Halloween and for guests visiting Boston from far away, it can be a once in a lifetime experience. During the month of October the town sees more than 250,000 of visitors. As the home of the Salem Witch Trials, the town has a rich history with several museums and plenty of sites to see. Just an hour drive from the Inn at St. Botolph, it makes for an easy day trip and is perfect for those who want to get into the Halloween spirit. We’ve put together an itinerary with some of our favorite Salem locales:

  • 10:00 AM – Grab a cup of coffee and a pastry at Jaho Coffee & Tea

  • 10:30 AM -  Head down the street to Ye Olde Pepper Companie, America’s oldest candy company, and fill a bag of your favorite candies to snack on throughout the day

  • 11:00 AM – Visit the Witch House

  • 12:00 PM – Browse the house and grounds at The Rope’s Mansion (Fun fact: the exterior is the shot they use for Allison’s house in the movie Hocus Pocus)

  • 1:00 PM – Buy lunch from one of the street vendors along Charter Street

  • 2:00 PM – Walk through the Burying Point, the oldest Burial site in Salem (1637)

  • 3:00 PM – Browse some of the outdoor vendor tents from Salem Open Market as well as some of Salem’s shops. (HausWitch is a favorite)

  • 3:30 PM – Hit one of the Haunted Houses in the center

  • 5:00 PM – Venture outside of the center to see Max’s House from the movie Hocus Pocus down towards the harbor

  • 6:00 PM – dinner at Firenze Trattoria

  • 8:00  PM – Take a walking Ghost Tour (Salem Night Tours offers a tour every night at 8:00 PM)
