Holiday Activities in Boston

Posted by Inn at St. Botolph on Nov 16, 2016 2:39:35 PM

The city always feels magical during the holiday season! From viewing the twinkling lights lining the trees on Commonwealth Ave, to enjoying a seasonal show in the Theater District, there’s plenty to do in the city in the month of December and beyond. We’ve pulled together our recommendations for the best holiday activities in Boston below.

Ice Skating on the Frog Pond

One of our favorite activities in the winter is to lace up for a skate on the  Frog Pond on the Boston Common! Renting a pair of skates and spending time on the ice is a wonderful way to pass a winter afternoon. The Frog Pond has skate rentals available as well as skating aids for children who are just learning, and is open 7 days a week, typically through mid-March (depending on the weather conditions).

There’s so much to love about Boston in the fall season. If you have an upcoming trip to the city, we recommend doing some research ahead of time and getting inspired. Today we’re sharing three of our favorite local Instagrammers to help you get excited for your visit! We love to see images from them pop up in our daily feed and we recommend giving each of them a follow. Scroll down to see some of their shots of Boston in its autumnal glory!

1. @brianmcw

Brian of the instagram handle, @brianmcw takes images during his morning walks to work. He beautifully captures the soul of the city in everyday scenes of residents going about their routines. We especially love his shots of Bostonians in action (called a #strideby) and his “door portraits” (#doortraits). He’s rapidly built a large following, and it’s easy to see why!

What to Wear in Boston for Fall

Posted by Inn at St. Botolph on Sep 12, 2016 10:07:16 AM

In Boston we have a distinct fall season. Starting at the end of September and early October, you can feel a chill in the air and see leaves on the trees starting to turn. As the temperatures drop, you’ll want to be prepared with plenty of layers. While temperatures typically range between 46°F (8°C) and 61°C (16°C) during the fall season, New England weather can be unpredictable. Your best bet is to be prepared for a variety of scenarios. To help you with packing for your Boston trip, we’ve put together some tips as well as a sample packing list!

1. Keep it classic.
To fit in with the locals, we recommend including some classic pieces in your trip wardrobe. Bostonians dress somewhat conservatively and favor neutral colors and timeless staples. Key pieces like striped shirts, a classic tan trench coat will help you look like a local. If traveling for business, we recommend dresses for women and suits for men in neutral colors, like black, gray, navy and tan. If you’re here for vacation, a pair of well fitting jeans and comfortable t-shirt will serve you well! Jewelry and accessories are an easy way to dress up any outfit (and won’t take up much room in your suitcase).
