New to the neighborhood

Posted by Inn at St. Botolph on Jun 13, 2016 2:04:36 PM

There are so many reasons to love our location in Boston's South End! The vibrant neighborhood, which is recognizable for its classic brownstone buildings, is increasingly gaining a reputation for its restaurant scene and small local retailers. We've highlighted some of our favorite businesses in previous posts, like this highlight on the Urban Grape and our holiday shopping guide. There are almost too many favorites to name! This spring the neighborhood has gained even more wonderful additions. Let's give a warm welcome to these newcomers!

KAVA Neo-Taverna

It feels like all of the South End has been patiently waiting for KAVA's opening -- and it was well worth the wait! This cozy joint on the corner of Shawmut and Union Park is a Greek Taverna and Wine Bar that specializes in small plates. With nautical rope lights and a hand painted details, the space is the perfect place to enjoy an evening drink. Bonus: it's directly across from one of our other favorite spots, the South End Buttery.

5 Best Coffee Shops in Boston

Posted by Inn at St. Botolph on Mar 23, 2016 1:01:48 PM

A café or coffee shop can be the perfect place to pause during a day of walking and exploring the city, to sit and enjoy a good book, or the company of a friend.  In Boston we’re lucky to have so many options, each with their own unique vibe. Here are five of our favorites that are also just a short walk from the Inn at St. Botolph.

1. Thinking Cup
Thinking Cup is one of our favorite places to cozy up. They serve Stumptown Coffee from Portland, OR which has been named “’Best Coffee in the World’ by NPR, The New York Times, Food & Wine Magazine, and USA Today.”  They offer high end specialty coffee as well as some of the best lattes in the city. We also highly recommend their Salted Caramel macarons and other bakery treats. With three convenient locations across the city (North End, Tremont Street across from the Common, and Newbury Street in the Back Bay), you’re never too far from a Thinking Cup. The Newbury Street location is the most convenient to the Inn.

2. South End Buttery
The South End Buttery is one of our favorite South End establishments. They’ve been open since 2005 and offer award winning coffees and teas. Pair a hot beverage with a freshly made cookie or cupcake from the bakery. Or if you’re in the mood for something more substantial, order one an avocado toast or a sandwich. Grab a seat by the window to watch neighborhood residents come and go.

10 Best Restaurants Near the Hynes Convention Center

Posted by Inn at St. Botolph on Feb 10, 2016 9:26:00 AM

Every year the Hynes Convention Center welcomes hundreds of thousands of convention-goers in Boston. From the Small Business Expo (5,000 attendees), to the New England Anime Society (24,000 attendees), to runners picking up their bibs for the Boston Marathon in the spring, the Hynes is a lively spot throughout the year. Luckily there are plenty of dining options in the area for hungry visitors. Here are our top 10 recommendations of where to eat near the Hynes Convention Center:

1. Sorellina Restaurant
If you’re looking for a special dinner out, Sorellina is the place to go. This high end Italian restaurant always delivers and provides a memorable experience. We highly recommend the Maccheroncelli with American Wagyu Meatballs and the Gnocchi with Maine Lobster and Vermont Butter. Bonus: Guests at the Inn receive 25% off their dinner bill at this Columbus Hospitality restaurant.

2. Atlantic Fish Co.
In the mood for fresh seafood? Atlantic Fish Co. is just a block away from the Convention Center, on Boylston. They’ve been serving fresh seafood in Boston since 1978 and their menu changes daily, to reflect the catch of the day. In the warmer months, their patio is the perfect spot to enjoy a meal while people watching.

Ahh, is there anything more comforting on a crisp day than a piping hot cup of tea? We're thankful to call DAVIDsTEA a neighbor and are frequent visitors to the Tremont Street storefront when the temperatures start to drop.

The shop is bright and inviting and the selection of flavors is astounding! They sample two flavors daily and encourage you to taste test. You can see which flavors they're sampling by keeping an eye on their facebook page

Explore Boston by Food Tour

Posted by Becky Shade on Sep 4, 2015 3:27:00 PM

When you’re traveling, there are lots of ways to see a new city. Here in Boston you can find guided walking tours, Duck tours, trolley tours and a lot more. All of these tours are a great way to see the city, to get your bearings, and to learn about Boston’s history.

However, if you’re looking for something a little different, we recommend trying a Boston food or wine tour. Here at the Inn, we are all food lovers, which is why we like to recommend this option to guests! Taking a food or wine tour lets you snack and sip like a Bostonian, and you get an insider’s view of restaurants, cafes and shops that locals love. Here are two of our top recommendations:

Urban Grape South End

Posted by Becky Shade on Aug 20, 2015 3:43:00 PM

Here in the South End we have plenty of great neighbors, and high on our list are the folks at Urban Grape South End. We’re lucky to be just a short 10 minute walk from this beautiful wine and spirits shop. Owners, husband and wife team, TJ and Hadley Douglas and their staff are incredibly knowledgeable and always happy to help you make the perfect selection.

At Urban Grape, wines are organized by body, from light to heavy – instead of by price or by region. This allows guests to new and different wines that are still within their comfort zone. We think the progressive shelving system is a way to get a little more adventurous with your choices and nicely echoes their motto, which is “Drink Progressively.” There is also a stunning 16 bottle tasting station in as well as a 14 ft. tasting table in the center of the store.

Hot summer days are finally here in Boston and one of our favorite ways to cool down is with a frozen treat. There are plenty of ice cream and gelato shops in the neighborhood and across the city and today we’re highlighting some of our favorites. The tour, which is in it's 21st year, is an opportunity to see a wide variety of beautiful gardens - from small backyard patios to rooftop terraces - and offers a unique view of the South End. Along the tour you'll also have the opportunity to see "Artists in the Garden," a collaboration with United South End Artists.
